Built from the Ground Up...
Todd’s story is a pretty simple one — start young, work hard, back yourself and never be afraid to have a go. He started his working life at just 16 as an engineer’s apprentice, learning the trade from the ground up before moving into civil contracting and roading around the Kāpiti region. Those early years taught him the value of hard work, good people and getting the job done properly — values that have stayed with him throughout his career.
More than 20 years ago, Todd decided to take a chance and start his own business. With just one machine, a lot of determination and a belief that he could make it work, he set out to build something of his own. What started small has grown into a well-established local civil contracting business, with a fleet of excavators, trucks, and specialist equipment and, most importantly, a team of 15 people who are an important part of the business today.
But for Todd, success has never just been about the size of the fleet or the number of jobs on the books. It’s about the people, the relationships built along the way and taking pride in every job, no matter how big or small. After more than two decades, Todd is still hands-on and involved in the day-to-day running of the business. The same attitude that saw him start out with one machine is still there today — work hard, look after your people, stand behind your work, and always give things your best shot.
Alongside Todd is his wife, Aimee, who plays an important role in the business as Office Manager. Together, they have built a business and a family, raising their two daughters along the way. For Todd and Aimee, the business is about more than just civil construction — it’s something they have built together, with their family and their local community at the heart of it.
From one machine to a team of 15, it’s been a true Kāpiti success story — built from the ground up, one job, one relationship and one hard-working day at a time.
